Rock Doves (1994)
High on Table Mountain, South Africa, I gazed out over the Bay to the Robben Island where Nelson Mandela had been imprisoned. The soft cooing sounds of birds brought my attention to this lichen-splotched rock where the birds had landed. I was caught by the contrast between the warm rust color of the birds and the brilliant blue sky.
